Burley

About Burley

Burley is an inner-city area of Leeds and located approximately one mile from the city centre.

Following the rise in student numbers from Leeds University and Leeds Becketts University in recent decades, the area has seen a growth in its student population due to its affordability compared to Headingley or Hyde Park.

Properties in Burley

Burley is dominated by red brick Victorian terraces including small back-to-back houses and through terraces. In the 20th century private housing estates were built including semi-detached properties around the Burley Wood.

Burley has a student population in private rented accommodation and in the mid- to late 2000s large scale student halls were built on Burley Road.

The area is served by small supermarkets (Iceland, Asda, Co-op and Aldi), and small chains such as One-Stop, Costcutter and Premier. The main shopping area is on Kirkstall Road and Burley Hill, where there are shops and restaurants.
